MARCUS

YBARRA

Marcus was born on August 19, 1997.  Born and raised in Minneapolis, MN, Marcus found himself drawn to sports. He played football, baseball, and basketball. Growing up, Marcus also wanted to make music. It’s in his blood. His grandfather, David Ybarra, is the lead singer of the blues band ‘David Ybarra & the Northside Dukes’. As a child, Marcus would watch them rehearse every Thursday. More musical roots can be credited to his parents who each had a love for music. At only seven years old, Marcus was learning to rap with his mom, teaching him the lyrics to “Gimme the Loot” by Biggie Smalls. He also found himself listening to a multitude of genres; from rock icons, such as Metallica, Janis Joplin, and Hall & Oates; all the way to artists, like The Beatles, Aretha Franklin and Bob Marley. Young Jeezy, Eminem, Kanye West and Lil Wayne have played the biggest roles when it comes to inspiring Marcus’ musical choices.

Marcus attended High School For Recording Arts, located in St. Paul, Minnesota. He also studied at McNally Smith College of Music. He felt that this opportunity gave him more skills to  become a better producer of his own music.

Marcus is one of the many who can truly appreciate the life he has, and knows how it can all change in an instant. On July 20, 2016, Marcus was stabbed twice in the abdomen and required immediate life saving surgery. Marcus saw his life flashing before his eyes, and also saw how truly short and sacred life is, and found a passion to keep living. He decided to focus that passion into his music, fueling his spirit and lyrics.

Marcus’ first single was “Kush and Lean” at the age of 15.  Soon after  he released several mixtapes: “Rockstar Life 1”, “Rockstar Life 2”, and “Rockstar Life 3”. On October 14, 2017, he released his first album “A Trip Inside My Mind”. On February 14, 2019, he released his EP "Love Is Dead".
